The German successes in the terrific battle which resulted in the fall of Namur has cast a gloom over Canada. The rumor persists, however, that the enemy captured but five of the nine forts of the stronghold.

The British troops show remarkable courage and are as cool in battle line as if firing at the ranges.

The allied troops are undaunted by their serious reverse, and no doubt is expressed of the final outcome resulting in victory. Germany has her full force, while Britain has many reserves.

The Russian army is advancing much more rapidly than was expected and are forcing their way through German territory, driving the enemy before them.

The Kaiser has ordained that boys of 16 to 19 years of age shall be put through a course of musketry and military training.

It begins to look as though Turkey, Greece, and Italy will be in the European war, the former lining up with Germany.

The conviction is now universal that the war is not to be quickly decided. It will be a long and bloody one, and no one need be surprised to learn of further German victories. The final downfall, however is certain.
