As a result of the British elections on Saturday it is
thought Premier Lloyd George will have a majority… Women voted for the first time in this
elections, and in many of the polls outnumbered the men. In Ireland the Nationalists were decisively
beaten by the Sinn Fein, and that unfortunate country has not seen the end of
its troubles yet.
General Mewburn officially announced that one hundred
thousand Canadian troops will remain in Germany
as part of the Army of Occupation until next March. This will be rather unpleasant news in many
homes where parents and wives have been …up with the thought that they will
have their loved ones with them …
The number of soldiers raised in Canada during the war was 611,741
of which 465,948 were volunteers. These figures
have been recently given out as authority by General Mewburn, who also announces
for the first time that the total secured from the entire Dominion under the Military
Service Act was 83,355. Of these, leave
of absence was granted to 7,100 men, being cases of extreme hardships, and
15,323 were allowed out on farm leave, and remained out on November 11th
